Side Arts welcomes our next guest blogger, Edna M. Davis. Edna’s four-part series will begin Tuesday, May 25th and run on each following Tuesday.

Edna M. Davis is a photographer and owner/director of Tyme Gallery, an eclectic fine arts gallery located in Havertown, PA. At the age of six months Tyme Gallery received the honor of Reader’s Choice, as “Best Art Gallery,” in Main Line Today Magazine, due to Davis’ presence and hard work. She and Tyme Gallery are almost one in the same.

Davis first opened her eye behind the camera as an X-ray technician. After supporting her husband through Harvard Law School and starting her family, Edna returned to college and majored in behavioral science, receiving her degree in social science. In her second career, she served the public for years as a social worker, not your typical social worker, but a child protective services worker. Davis supervised the intake unit for Montgomery County Office of Children & Youth for over six years. With the experience of viewing society’s problems from the inside, combined with her perspective of the inner self and her unique eye of the body from outside in, she pursued what is now her passion.

After developing her photographic creativity for several years-her accomplishments including publication through The Fels Fund and one woman shows at Representative Dwight Evans’ office and L&M Tapestries in Philadelphia; Davis exhaled and clicked Tyme Gallery into being. Some of her collectors include Reverend Herbert Lusk, retired Eagles running back and the late Ambassador Thomas Foligetta. Her experienced views and perspectives gave her the many talents needed to run a gallery.

Tyme Gallery, was established August 15th 1997 and featured just 13 artists. The gallery features an eclectic range of artwork and now exhibits over 200 artists. Since the gallery opened Davis has won 3 awards, the before mentioned Reader’s Choice Best Art Gallery in Main Line Today Magazine, People’s Picks in the News of Delaware County and a Community Service Award through Fleet Bank. In 2005 Davis was given the opportunity to curate an exhibition at the Venezuelan Embassy in New York and later exhibit there herself. Whether handling the PR for the gallery including shooting the artwork, to the hanging of an exhibition Davis continues to show quite a range in talent. The eclectic style of the gallery also closely mirrors Davis’ life and perspective in her work. Edna M. Davis and Tyme Gallery are both, “Always looking for the inner essence.”
