Introducing the 100 Artist Uprising

Posted by Side Arts on December 31, 2010
Artist Uprising, News / No Comments

Side Arts will be going through some very exciting changes throughout 2011. In concert with these, we will be introducing more and more original content to the blog. The first of which is the 100 Artist Uprising project.

Side Arts is issuing a challenge to contemporary artists to become more involved with the emerging artists’ community of today. We believe that the more active established artists are with emerging artists, the more a long-term sustained community of new talent and artforms will develop.

Our question to the selected artists: Tell us about an early experience showing or selling your artwork and what did you learn from it. Artists will be asked for submissions as well as representative images of their artwork.

To make it even more interesting, besides posting the submissions, we will also be posting who we are trying to contact and their responses: positive, negative, friendly, or otherwise! I’m sure we will make some mistakes along the way and will share those, too. We will try to post daily on our progress.

Side Arts hopes you enjoy this series, and encourages you to offer suggestions as to who to contact and comment back to the the contributing artists in the blog post comments section.

Happy New Year 2011!

Hand of Time, Toni Nash @ Philadelphia Dumpster Divers

Toni Nash explained to DoN that her found object construction expresses the concept that people always look to their hands to acknowledge the passage of time.   Nash uses hand imagery in her work, “…because what can you do without hands?  A baby see it’s own hand, I see stuff and it talks to me, then I interpret what it says.”
